If you grew up in the 1980's and 1990's, then you have probably watched some of these as a kid. But, those of you who did not, you should not miss-out on these great cartoons, and you should definitely give them a watch if you get the chance. They may help get you into the Halloween spirit!
This was a spin-off series of the popular Scooby-Doo franchise. Scooby accidentally released 13 ghosts from the Chest of Demons, and now has to recapture them with the help of Shaggy, Scrappy, Daphne, and new friend, Flim-Flam. They are guided by Vincent Van Ghoul, who was voiced by the late-great Vincent Price.
With the success of the 1991 film, The Addams Family animated series began airing on Saturday mornings in 1992. Since this series was made for kids, much of the Addams Family's antics were toned-down. Gomez didn't smoke cigars or make sexual references to his wife, and Uncle Fester didn't "blow himself up" quite as much.
Based on the 80's movie of the same name, the series follows goth girl, Lydia, along with her Neitherworld friend, Beetlejuice. It was developed by the original film's director, Tim Burton. Instead of containing "dead people" in the afterlife as the film did, this more-kid-friendly rendition includes many "weird creatures" of The Neitherworld.
Count Duckula was a British animated series based on a vegetarian vampire duck, named Count Duckula.
This series was a spin-off of the popular show, Danger Mouse, which Count Duckula was a recurring antagonist for Danger Mouse.
This series follows an easily frightened dog, named Courage, as he helps protect himself and his owners from the appearances of monsters, aliens, demons, mad scientists, zombies, vampires, and other random phenomena.
Piggy-backing on the success of the popular 1984 Ghostbusters film, this series was ACTUALLY based-off Filmation's 1975 live-action show, The Ghost Busters. Needless to say, confusion occurred among kids and fans, as this show ran simultaneously with another cartoon of a similar name, which was actually based on the 1984 film.
Gargoyles was produced by Walt Disney Studios, and was noted for it's dark tones and complex story arcs, which wasn't seen much in animation at the time.
The series features a species of nocturnal creatures known as gargoyles that turn to stone during the day, focusing on a clan led by Goliath.
Little Shop was a short-lived, 13-episode series loosely based on the 1986 film, "Little Shop of Horrors".
We follow a teenage Seymour and his plant, Junior (not Audrey II as it was in the film), as they explore and get into mischief around Skid Row.
This series is based on the 1984 film, Ghostbusters, and not to be confused with the earlier Ghostbusters entry.
Here, we follow Peter, Egon, Ray, Winston, and their friendly pet ghost, Slimer, as they bust ghosts and ghouls around New York City and beyond.
A follow-up to "The Real Ghostbusters", this series takes place years later after the Ghostbusters go out-of-business due to a lack of supernatural activity. The old crew has gone their separate ways, except for Egon who stayed behind in the old firehouse to monitor the containment unit and to take care of Slimer.
Once ghosts start reappearing, Egon forms a team of new recruits to take on ghost-busting duties.
Based on the popularity of the live-action HBO series, Tales From the Crypt, the series details the Cryptkeeper telling horror stories to the viewers, which in most cases has a lesson to be learned by the end.
The series was cancelled in 1994, but did return for one more season in 1999 as, New Tales From the Cryptkeeper.
This series is loosely based on the series of The Toxic Avenger "R-rated" films. Here, Toxie is a mutant with a kind heart who wants to keep his city of Tromaville clean and safe from bad guys.
